The activities within this group are mainly focused on Continous-Time Delta-Sigma dataconverters. For several years the group has been working on alternative Delta-Sigma topologies without any global feedback (Open loop modulator). These topologies have several benefits compared to conventional DS-modulators. As the modulator has no feedback, multi-bit quantization is trivial reducing both quantization noise and in-band tones. In addition the integrated input-signal is quantized in time-domain rather in amplitude-domain making the circuit less affected by low supply voltages which is about to become a severe problem for data converters in modern nano-scale CMOS technologies.
